Get ‘em ready for when you finish your next IR sesh!

Should I Eat Before or After a Sauna Session?

If you eat a heavy meal before entering a sauna, as the temperature goes up, so does your heart rate and blood pressure because of how much work is being done to process all that food.

Soon afterwards though, your body will need energy for the digestion process rather than staying cool like when exercising.

This can lead to burping or reaching for water as an attempt at stabilising ourselves.

Sauna is like a high-intensity workout. When you sauna whilst hungry or thirsty, your body will ultimately crash from the lack of nutrition and calories.

To avoid this outcome drink lots of water before entering the cabin to minimize dehydration and wear loose-fitting clothing that allows for airflow.

(Sweat can evaporate off your skin faster which cools down your core temperature by increasing evaporation surface area on clothes and skin.)

What To Eat Before A Sauna Session

It is important to know the best time of day and which foods work well together for you when using your sauna.

With this in mind, we recommend going into your first sauna session at least two hours after eating, as it allows you to digest the food

Eat fruit or yogurt beforehand, having something light will  be beneficial, like water with lemon juice and honey or water with ginger for energy while spending time at high temperatures

It’s highly recommended to always avoid consuming alcohol during or immediately after a sauna session because drinking slows blood circulation.
